Dear ministers at St. Nicholas,
We would like to thank you for being an important part of this parish and for all of the ministries that you help with. As ministers within our parish, it is important that we help to set the tone for the worship that we are joining in. One way for us to do this is to always make sure we are in our Sunday best. We all understand what dressing up conveys as we do it for other special occasions like weddings, however, the Mass is infinitely more important than a wedding. Our moral life is obviously more important than the clothes we wear, but dressing in our Sunday best shows others that this isn’t just something that is important to us, but that it is the most important thing to us.
We do understand that inevitably, someone will have a baby spit up on them as they are walking out the door and have to throw something else on quickly. Or, there will be other situations where you are asked to fill in as an EMHC, gift bearer, etc. when you weren’t originally scheduled and due to circumstances, you are dressed in the best you could considering the situation. Please do not feel like you should have to say no in these situations. We simply want to dress for the occasion and bring back the understanding to those in the parish that Mass is the most important thing we join in every week. As ministers, we are who others look toward as leaders. As leaders, we always want to put our best foot forward. Please join us in continuing to be shining examples of the importance of the Mass and thank you again for being those shining examples.
